Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is championing the scheme, which resembles NATO’s collective defense clause but does not entail actual Alliance membership.
The proposal tasks nations with bilateral accords signed with Ukraine to consult on countermeasures within one day following renewed aggression, reported agency sources.
Potential responses could involve furnishing Kyiv with immediate and sustained defense aid, economic support, strengthening Ukraine’s Armed Forces, alongside implementing sanctions against Russia.
Bloomberg notes it remains unclear if the strategy involves deploying foreign military units to Ukraine.
