President Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed about this in his evening address, as reported by a Ukrinform correspondent.
“This week, I prepared a special letter to the President of the United States and Congress (on the critical shortage of air defense systems – ed.). The letter was sent to Washington institutions yesterday. It is rare for leaders of another state to address both the President and Congress of the United States of America simultaneously by letter, but the situation now is such: we need to act promptly, act effectively. It is important that America hears Ukraine,” he stated.
Zelenskyy noted that the Ukrainian side understands that there is a lot of global attention on the war in Iran right now.
“We need to stop the war here in Europe too – a very bloody war that has been ongoing at a full scale for five years now. And the sooner we can provide more protection from ballistics, the sooner we can ensure that diplomacy works,” believes the head of the Ukrainian state.
The President of Ukraine explained that as long as Russia relies on missiles, its interest in diplomacy is not genuine.
“We must fix this. And we can only fix it together with America. Ukraine is grateful to America for all its support. It will be even more grateful for a dignified peace and guaranteed security. All of this is possible if there is enough resolve. Thank you to everyone who is helping us,” he said.
Commenting on the visit of US Congress representatives to Ukraine today, Zelenskyy noted the importance of America supporting Ukraine and American representatives visiting Ukraine to see firsthand what is happening and what the threats are – especially after the particularly brutal massive strike by the Russians on Sunday night.
The President of Ukraine also separately recalled his conversation with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, which took place on Wednesday.
“I am grateful for the support. Air defense is the top priority. We are also preparing a special format with the European Union – DroneDeal. This is a very promising format,” said the head of the Ukrainian state.
He expressed his conviction that the security of Europe cannot be imagined without Ukraine.
